Welfare Assistance for Differently-Abled Beneficiaries in Salem
Tourism Minister R. Rajendran announced that 1.54 lakh differently-abled beneficiaries in Salem district have received welfare assistance totaling ₹186.27 crore over the last four and a half years.
Distribution of Welfare Assistance
On Sunday, the Minister distributed various forms of assistance to 359 differently-abled beneficiaries in Salem. This included retrofitted petrol scooters, motorised sewing machines, and smart phones for those with hearing and vision impairments.

Details of Overall Assistance
The Minister provided further details on the assistance given in the district. This includes identity cards for 83,645 people and unique disability identity cards for 34,050 people. Additionally, ₹134.79 crore was allocated for monthly maintenance assistance to 15,636 beneficiaries. There was also ₹13.13 crore provided to 2,189 individuals for personal assistance, and retrofitted petrol scooters worth ₹20.38 crore were given to 2,039 beneficiaries.
Mobile Soil Testing Vehicle
At another event, the Minister flagged off a mobile soil testing vehicle valued at ₹75 lakh on behalf of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department.
