Chennai disbursed ₹5,587 crore to 1.86 crore ration card holders for Pongal, along with 1.39 crore dhotis and sarees, via 24,924 ration shops
Cash Dole for Pongal Festival Distributed to Rice Ration Card Holders
A total of 1,86,23,426 rice ration card holders have received ₹3,000 for the Pongal festival. This was done through 24,924 ration shops across the State, according to Minister K.R. Periakaruppan.
The Minister stated that the total cash disbursed amounts to ₹5,587.02 crore. Additionally, 1,39,06,292 dhotis and sarees have been distributed as of Sunday.
After the Chief Minister’s announcement, tokens were given out in all ration shops from January 4 to 7. This was for distributing Pongal gift hampers to eligible ration card holders and cash to all rice ration card holders.
Since the disbursement began on January 8, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, ration shops have been giving ₹3,000 to each rice ration card holder and families in Sri Lankan rehabilitation camps.
More than 50,000 workers from the Cooperation Department helped with the distribution of Pongal gift hampers and cash. Each ration shop distributed to about 200 cards on the first day and between 300 and 400 on the second day.
