Inspection in Delhi’s Naraina finds 21 industrial units operating without required NOC, prompting action by authorities
Inspection Reveals Unapproved Industrial Units in Naraina
New Delhi: Up to 21 industrial units were found operating in the Cantonment Board area of Naraina without the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the relevant authority, according to an inspection drive.
Officials reported that flying squads from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, and the Delhi Cantonment Board conducted a joint inspection earlier this week. This was to check compliance with environmental norms and land-use regulations.
The inspection was prompted by complaints from members of the All Naraina Residents Welfare Samiti about polluting industrial units in residential areas.
Details of the Inspection Findings
“During the inspection drive, all locations mentioned in the complaint were visited. Every operational industrial unit was examined. In total, 21 industrial units were inspected across the CB Area of Naraina,” stated the CAQM.
The inspection found that 19 out of the 21 units are classified as Household Industries under the Master Plan for Delhi -2021, but they do not possess the required NOC. The remaining two units were not categorized as permissible household industries.
According to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee’s consent policy and the Supreme Court’s directions, household industries in residential areas must obtain an NOC from the High Powered Committee led by the commissioner of industries of the Delhi government.
“During the inspection, none of the inspected units could provide documentary evidence of having obtained the mandatory NOC from the competent authority,” the statement noted.
“In light of these findings, CAQM has informed the Delhi Cantonment Board to take necessary action. Industrial units in the CB Area of Naraina must operate only after obtaining the required permissions and statutory clearances, including the NOC,” it added.
