Tragic Fire Claims Life of Bengaluru Woman

A 34-year-old woman in the IT sector died after inhaling smoke during a fire at her rented home in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on the night of January 3.

Details of the Incident

The woman, identified as Sharmila, was from Mangaluru and worked at Accenture. The fire occurred in Subramanya Layout, with details emerging later, according to a report by NDTV. Police reported that the fire was first noticed around 10:30 PM when smoke was seen coming from the building. The property owner, Vijayendra, contacted the Ramamurthy Nagar police, who then called fire and emergency services.

Firefighting Efforts

Firefighters forced open the locked door, finding the house filled with dense smoke. They quickly brought the flames under control. During their search, they found Sharmila unconscious and took her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.

Investigation Underway

Investigators believe Sharmila could not evacuate due to the rapid spread of smoke and fire. She was alone in one room, while her friend, who stayed in another room, was away in her hometown. Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have started in the friend’s room. Police suspect that when Sharmila opened her door, she encountered thick smoke, leading to suffocation.

Ongoing Investigation

Sharmila had moved to Bengaluru about a year ago for work. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory has examined the site, and police are investigating the cause of the fire. An unnatural death case has been registered at the Ramamurthy Nagar police station.
