DRI Seizes 5.58 kg of Heroin on Ferozepur-Ludhiana Highway
On Saturday evening, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Ludhiana zonal unit seized 5.58 kg of heroin from two men on the Ferozepur-Ludhiana highway.
This amount is classified as a commercial quantity under the law.
Details of the Operation
According to DRI officials, they received credible intelligence about a consignment of narcotic drugs being transported from border districts to Ludhiana in a specific vehicle.
In response, DRI officers arrived at the Ferozepur-Ludhiana highway on the city’s outskirts. They identified and intercepted the suspected vehicle around 5:15 PM.
Search and Recovery
During a detailed search of the car, officers found 10 packets wrapped in white cloth. These packets were concealed inside two shoe bags, which were hidden in specially created cavities within two large speakers in the vehicle’s boot.
Field tests confirmed the substance was heroin. The total weight of the contraband was 5.58 kg, classified as a commercial quantity. The estimated illicit market value of the seized heroin is ₹11.15 crore, according to DRI officials.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
The heroin consignment and the vehicle used for transportation were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The two occupants of the vehicle were formally arrested on Sunday.
Further investigation is ongoing to trace the source and intended recipients of the seized consignment.
