In Delhi, a 50-year-old tailor was stabbed to death by a minor after a verbal dispute near his home in Adarsh Nagar on New Year’s Day.
On Thursday, Bihari Lal (50), a tailor, was parking his bicycle near his house in North West Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area when a group of teenagers allegedly passed by him while hurling abuses. When the 50-year-old told them to mind the language, an argument ensued and escalated quickly. Bihari Lal was allegedly physically assaulted and stabbed during the fight. He was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police reported on Friday that a minor who stabbed Bihari Lal was apprehended. “The juvenile has been apprehended by the police staff. He disclosed that the offence was committed in a fit of rage due to alleged verbal abuse by the deceased. The weapon of offence has been recovered, and efforts are underway to apprehend the other accused,” said a senior police officer.
According to neighbors, who said Bihari Lal worked in Shastri Nagar, knife-wielding teenagers have become a problem in their locality. “He had just come back from work and was parking his bicycle when some boys passed by him while using abusive language and kicking the boxes and buckets kept outside the houses. He simply told the boys to not use such language since women also live in this area. Just hearing that, those boys got angry and stabbed him,” Dimple, a neighbor, told reporters about the incident that took place on the evening of New Year’s Day.
