Chennai Metro Rail Trial Run Rescheduled

Chennai Metro Rail Limited officials announced that the trial run is now set for January 11. It was originally planned for Friday.

Details of the Trial Run

The trial run for the phase II project will occur from Porur Junction to Vadapalani. The stretch from Poonamallee to Vadapalani via Porur is scheduled for passenger operations next month. These trial runs are essential to ensure the smooth operation of various systems.

Phase II Project Overview

The phase II project of Chennai Metro Rail spans 118.9 km and includes three corridors. Corridor 3 runs from Madhavaram to SIPCOT, corridor 4 goes from Poonamallee to Light House, and corridor 5 connects Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. The first section to open will be a 15.8 km stretch of corridor 4 from Poonamallee to Vadapalani.

Previous Trial Run and Current Status

Last year, a trial run from Poonamallee to Porur was conducted. An official stated that overhead electrification work was ongoing and expected to finish by 5 p.m. However, more time was needed for traction testing and electrification. Testing will also continue on Saturday, with the trial run likely occurring around 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Future Plans for the Trial Run

The trial run on January 11 will take place on the downward track line. The upward track line’s overhead electrification work is not yet complete. Officials aim to extend the trial run to the upward track line on January 14. However, sources indicate that completing the overhead electrification in a few days may be challenging and could take at least a week.
