Police and GMDA Unable to Demolish Gangster’s House Due to Court Stay

A joint team from the Gurugram police and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) could not demolish a gangster’s house in Dhanwapur, Sector 104, on Monday. This was due to a court stay order presented by the family, officials reported.

Details of the Property

Property Owner Monthly Rent Allegations Location
Sunil Dahiya, alias Tota ₹2.5 lakh Illegally built using crime proceeds Dhanwapur, Sector 104

The house reportedly earned ₹2.5 lakh in monthly rent and was flagged as illegally constructed during a police investigation. The property belongs to Sunil Dahiya, 44, who was arrested nearly two months ago. He is currently in Bhondsi jail and has 34 cases against him for serious crimes like attempted murder and extortion.

Demolition Attempt and Court Stay

The demolition was part of a drive against notorious criminals directed by the state police. Police found that Dahiya’s three-storey house was allegedly built on a 300-square-yard plot using crime proceeds. On Monday afternoon, a team led by ACP (West) Abhilaksh Joshi and district town planner (enforcement) RS Bhath arrived with bulldozers to demolish the structure.

However, the demolition could not proceed because Dahiya’s family presented a court stay order issued seven months ago. Instead, the GMDA enforcement team and police sealed the property, which had all three floors rented to commercial firms, due to pending property tax dues.

Family’s Response

Naresh Dahiya, Sunil’s brother, stated they received a demolition notice last year. He approached the court, which stayed the order. “The property is not in my brother’s name but in my name. I was not served any notice over pending taxes. I will take out the details and clear them,” he told the press.

Official Statements

Bhath mentioned that a recent change in jurisdiction within the department might have caused the oversight regarding the stay order. “Probably due to it, junior engineers might not have been able to check the court stay orders. However, we still took a major step by sealing the property over pending taxes,” he said.

ACP Joshi confirmed that the property was built using crime proceeds. “It has come to light in a detailed investigation, after which the information was shared with the civic agencies for getting them demolished by following all the legal procedures,” he said.

Subsequent Demolition of Another Criminal’s House

Later, police and the GMDA enforcement wing demolished the illegal house of another criminal, Banarasi, in Surat Nagar Phase II in Rajendra Park. Police reported that Banarasi has six criminal cases against him, including murder, drug trafficking, and illegal arms smuggling, registered at four Gurugram police stations.
