The police identified the accused as Ananta Swain, who works as a security guard. Following a tip-off, the team intercepted him while he was waiting on a platform at Kachiguda Railway Station.
Background of the Case
Police reported that Swain developed a habit of online betting and drinking alcohol. He met another individual, Kamal, on Facebook about 18 months ago. Kamal allegedly lured Swain into the illegal drug trade by promising quick money. Swain had previously transported ganja to Surat and earned ₹7,000 for that delivery.
On January 12, Kamal gave Swain a packet of ganja weighing 6.284 kilograms at Bhanjanagar Market in Odisha. He instructed Swain to deliver it to Surat. The consignment was valued at ₹3.14 lakh, and Swain was promised ₹15,000 for the delivery. Swain boarded the Konark Express from Berhampur to Secunderabad, planning to continue to Surat by the Rajkot Express.
Change of Plans
On Tuesday, Swain changed his travel route due to fears of increased police checks at Secunderabad Railway Station. He took an MMTS local train to Kachiguda. While waiting at the station, officials intercepted and arrested him.
Next Steps
The accused and the seized ganja were handed over to the Kachiguda Railway Police for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to trace Kamal, who is believed to be operating from Kandhamal district in Odisha.
Citizens are encouraged to report such information through the EAGLE Force helpline. All inputs will be kept confidential, and credible informants will be rewarded as part of the effort to create a drug-free Telangana.
