The son of a former Union minister and current BJP MLA has been booked in a hit-and-run case. His car allegedly hit a motorcycle, leaving the rider critically injured in Raipur, police said on Monday.
Details of the Incident
The accused, Balwant Singh alias Lucky, is 34 years old. He is the son of Renuka Singh, an MLA from the Bharatpur-Sonhat (ST) constituency and a former Union minister for Tribal Affairs from 2019 to 2023.
The incident happened around 1 AM at Salasar Chowk. The victim, Tribhuvan Singh, also 34, is a disc jockey (DJ). He was returning home to Telibandha after finishing work, according to a police official.
Accusations and Investigation
Balwant was driving his car from the Arang side towards Telibandha with friends when the vehicle allegedly struck the motorcycle. After the collision, he reportedly fled the scene in another car.
Legal Actions
A first information report (FIR) has been filed against Balwant Singh at Telibandha police station. He is charged under Sections 125(a) (endangering personal safety of others) and 281 (rash and negligent driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police stated that more charges may be added after receiving the victim’s medical report.
Victim’s Condition
The injured biker has been admitted to a government hospital in Raipur. His condition is reported to be serious, according to police.
Current Status
The accused has not yet been arrested, and further investigation is ongoing, the official added.
