Lucknow authorities cleaned garbage at Bada Imambada, placing flower pots to prevent dumping after a report highlighted neglect
Clean-Up Drive Initiated at Bada Imambada
A day after Hindustan Times reported on the poor upkeep of the Bada Imambada, authorities began a clean-up drive at the heritage site on Thursday. They removed garbage and took corrective measures.
Following the report titled ‘Monumental neglect: Filth, parking chaos mar city’s heritage sites’, a pile of garbage on the left side of the Imambada complex was cleared. The Hussainabad and Allied Trust (HAT) placed flower pots in the area to prevent further dumping and enhance its appearance.
District Magistrate Vishak G, who is also the chairman of HAT, visited the site on Wednesday. He expressed his displeasure over the filth and littering in the complex. The HAT staff acted on the DM’s directions by cleaning the area and installing flower pots.
However, unauthorized parking of two-wheelers and four-wheelers continues in front of the iconic Rumi Darwaza and along the Bada Imambada complex. The district magistrate stated that vacant land behind the Imambada’s second gate towards Nimbu Park has been identified for a new parking lot and toilet complex by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). “Levelling work has already begun,” he said.
Additionally, to address complaints about unregulated tourist guides, the administration plans to provide training to all 80 guides in coordination with UP Tourism and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), according to the DM.
He also announced that the current physical ticketing system will soon be replaced with an online ticketing system through a dedicated HAT portal that will be launched shortly.
