Gautam Budh Nagar administration enhances coordination among departments to combat drug trade and substance abuse, focusing on surveillance and enforcement
Greater Noida Increases Efforts Against Drug Trade
GREATER NOIDA – Gautam Budh Nagar is becoming a busy district with inter-state borders, transit hubs, and dense urban areas. The district administration is improving coordination among enforcement and social sector departments to fight illegal drug trade and substance abuse, officials said on Monday.
District Magistrate Medha Roopam has instructed officials to increase actions against drug trafficking networks, unauthorized sale of narcotics, and misuse of prescription medicines. The focus is also on strengthening preventive and rehabilitation measures.
Officials stated that they are tightening surveillance at vulnerable points. These include inter-state entry routes, railway stations, bus terminals, and public spaces. They are also improving intelligence-sharing among the police, excise, narcotics control, and civil departments.
“Enforcement drives and inspections are being conducted regularly to check illegal sale and movement of intoxicants in the district,” said District Excise Officer (DEO) Subodh Kumar.
During a recent review meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), the district excise department provided an update on enforcement actions. This included inspections and targeted drives against the illegal sale of intoxicants.
The administration is also focusing on reducing the misuse of prescription medicines, which is a growing concern.
“Special attention is being paid to prescription drug abuse. Coordination with the police and drug control authorities has been strengthened to identify repeat offenders and supply chains,” the DEO said. He added that inspections of medical stores are being intensified.
