Hyderabad’s GHMC initiates drive to remove unauthorised hoardings, citing safety and regulatory concerns, with phased enforcement and penalties for violators
GHMC Launches Drive Against Illegal Advertisements
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started a special enforcement drive. This initiative aims to identify and remove unauthorized and illegal advertisement structures in the city. This follows the delimitation and merger of several municipalities into the civic body.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan announced on Saturday that many unauthorized hoardings, banners, and other advertisement elements have been found in various locations within GHMC limits. The increase of these structures has raised concerns about public safety, visual clutter, and violations of municipal regulations.
As part of this ongoing drive, several illegal advertisement structures have already been dismantled. Mr. Karnan stated that enforcement actions would be carried out in a phased and sustained manner throughout the city. This is to ensure urban orderliness, road safety, and compliance with advertisement norms.
To enhance enforcement, the GHMC is forming a dedicated team. This team will monitor, regulate, and take action against unauthorized advertisements.
The Commissioner warned that strict actions would be taken against violators. This includes initiating penal measures according to the GHMC Act and relevant rules.
