GHMC Files Police Complaint Over Viral Dog Carcass Photos

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has filed a police complaint against an outsourced employee. This action follows viral photos and videos of dog carcasses at an animal care center in Patel Nagar, Amberpet. The employee is accused of sharing selective images with NGOs and animal lovers.

The shared videos and photos showed injured and starving dogs. Animal welfare activists claimed these dogs died of starvation. They alleged that the dogs attacked one another due to a lack of food.

GHMC disputed these claims, calling them false and misleading. They stated that the claims caused public panic and disturbed public order. K. Chakrapani Reddy, the Deputy Director (Veterinary), blamed K. Laxman, the outsourced employee, for recording and sharing selective videos and photos for money.

The complaint noted that verification of WhatsApp messages and UPI transaction records showed Mr. Laxman was in contact with animal volunteers. He received money for sharing the videos and photos.

According to the complaint, the visuals actually show dogs rescued from various locations. These dogs were brought to the care center for treatment and shelter. Some dogs died from natural causes despite receiving veterinary care. The dogs were picked up from sensitive areas like schools and hospitals, following Supreme Court directions.

After the visuals went viral, volunteers and NGO members began gathering unlawfully at the animal care center. They obstructed official vehicles, abused staff, and prevented public servants from doing their jobs. This created serious law and order issues. The complaint seeks an inquiry into the matter and legal action against Mr. Laxman and others involved. It also requests police protection and prevention of unlawful gatherings at the center.
