GMADA Takes Action Against Unauthorised Project in Mohali

The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has acted against an unauthorised residential project in the Majri area of Mohali. On Monday, GMADA wrote to the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Mohali, seeking the registration of an FIR against the developers of the project named ‘Fairwood Farms & Imperial Golf Greens’.

GMADA chief administrator Sakshi Sawhney urged the public to invest only in approved projects to avoid financial losses. The authority had previously issued a show-cause notice to the promoters for conducting construction activities without the necessary approvals.

Details of the Project

The district town planner (regulatory) at GMADA reported that M/s World Wide Immigration Consultancy Services (WWICS) Ltd and others, located at SCO 415-16, Sector 22-C, Chandigarh, were developing an unauthorised colony called ‘Fairwood Farms & Imperial Golf Greens’ in village Nadha, Majri sub-division of Mohali.

GMADA found that the project was being executed without the required permissions from the development authority. A show-cause notice was issued to the developers, asking them to explain why action should not be taken for illegal development.

Advertising and Claims

The situation gained attention after advertisements were published in various newspapers. The company invited applications from defence personnel, government service officers, and their families for 100 plots measuring 605 square yards and 1,250 square yards.

The promoters claimed that the project was an eco-tourism venture approved by the government of India. However, GMADA found that the project violated Section 5 of The New Capital (Periphery) Control Act, 1952, and Section 64 of The Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act, 1995.

Response from Developers

Devinder Sandhu, senior director of WWICS, stated, “We have valid approval operating under the ecotourism policy of 2018 of the government of India. The high court has passed orders in favor of petitioners, including us, regarding our approval and quashed the cancellation orders.” He added that there is a contempt petition against GMADA for issuing notices to those with approvals under the ecotourism policy.

Next Steps

Due to ongoing violations and misleading advertisements, GMADA has formally requested the SSP to register an FIR against the developers. GMADA chief administrator Sakshi Sawhney reiterated the authority’s zero-tolerance policy towards unauthorised projects and stated that strict action is regularly taken against illegal colonies and townships.
