Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority allocates ₹52 crore for repairing two major roads in Old Gurugram to improve traffic and infrastructure.
GMDA Tenders for Road Repairs in Gurugram
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has issued tenders for the repair of two important roads: Old Railway Road to Iffco Chowk and Basai Chowk to Old Railway Road. This initiative aims to improve traffic flow in Old Gurugram, according to officials.
Estimated Costs and Project Details
Officials estimate that ₹52 crore will be allocated for the repair of these two road sections. During a review meeting on Monday, GMDA CEO PC Meena stated that efforts are ongoing to reduce congestion in Old Gurugram and to complete pending projects in both old and developing sectors.
Key Projects Under Review
Key projects reviewed on Monday include:
| Project Name | Location |
|---|---|
| Vyapar Kendra Road | Sector 27/43 |
| Hamilton Court Road | Sector 27/28 |
| MG Road Streetscaping | N/A |
| Leg-4 Drain Construction | Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) |
Meena noted that these projects are part of GMDA’s key infrastructure initiatives. They aim to improve civic amenities, strengthen urban infrastructure, boost traffic movement, enhance mobility, improve pedestrian safety, and uplift the city’s infrastructure. Elevated roads are also being planned in addition to road rebuilding in the Old City.
Accountability and Monitoring
Meena emphasized the need for accountability in these projects. He instructed officials to ensure timely completion and to take ownership of their respective projects. They must monitor these works as a priority.
To enhance monitoring, Meena directed that sub-divisional officers and junior engineers conduct site inspections twice daily. They are to share photographs and updates in official monitoring groups for daily tracking.
Budget Allocation for Specific Repairs
According to GMDA, ₹26 crore will be allocated for the repair of the Basai Chowk to Old Railway Road via Basai Road. A stormwater drain will also be constructed, as this stretch often floods during the monsoon. The other stretch, from Old Railway Road through Maharaja Agrasen Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, MG Road, and Maharana Pratap Chowk to IFFCO Chowk, will be redeveloped for an estimated ₹25 crore, officials added.
