Haryana Police Reports 40% Drop in Extortion Incidents

Haryana Police announced a 40% reduction in extortion-related incidents in 2025 compared to 2024. This decline is mainly due to efforts against organized crime and extortion rackets.

High-Level Review Meeting

The director general of police (DGP) Ajay Singhal led a high-level review meeting at the police headquarters on Saturday. He noted that police successfully foiled nine major targeted-murder conspiracies. These actions helped prevent large-scale criminal violence and restore public confidence.

Addressing Gangster Threats

Singhal discussed the increasing threats from gangsters and their overseas handlers. He emphasized that individuals spreading fear will not be spared. Those creating fear among citizens will be treated like terrorists and face the strictest legal actions.

Understanding Organized Crime

During the meeting, inspector general of the special task force (STF), B Satheesh Balan, presented on the operational methods and technology used by organized crime groups. He explained that many gangsters operate from abroad, managing their networks through social media, encrypted apps, and internet calling systems.

Surveillance and Coordination

Balan stated that the STF is monitoring these individuals and collaborating with international agencies for their deportation. Police officials expressed concern about young people being influenced by gangsters via social media. Criminals lure youth into minor tasks, gradually pushing them into serious crimes while remaining protected in distant locations.
