Kerala High Court Issues Stay in Culpable Homicide Case

The Kerala High Court issued an interim stay for one month on further proceedings against a person accused in a culpable homicide case. This case arose after Uma Thomas, MLA, suffered serious injuries from a fall at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in December 2024.

Details of the Case

The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Ernakulam was hearing the case. Ms. Thomas was attending an event at the stadium when the incident occurred. The Palarivattom police registered a case following the incident.

Accusations Against the Petitioner

The prosecution alleged that Janeesh P.S., the third accused, was responsible for event management. He allegedly entrusted stage work to another person, who is the fifth accused. The petitioner claimed he did not organize the event or give instructions for the stage setup from which Ms. Thomas fell. He sought to quash the first information report against him.

Court’s Response

A Bench of Justice C.S. Dias admitted the plea and issued notice to the parties involved.
