House Surgeon Dies by Suicide in Siddipet
A 23-year-old house surgeon allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room at the Government Medical College in Siddipet. This incident occurred after she was reportedly cheated by a fellow doctor under the pretext of a relationship.
Details of the Incident
The deceased was identified as B. Lavanya, from Jogulamba-Gadwal district. According to Siddipet police, Lavanya had completed her MBBS and was working as an intern at the Medical College. During her internship, she met Pranay Teja, a resident doctor from Alwal, in July 2025. Pranay had completed his postgraduation and was also working at the same institute.
Relationship and Distress
Police reported that the two became close. However, Pranay later stopped responding to Lavanya’s calls and messages. He allegedly refused to marry her because she was from a Dalit background.
Aftermath of the Incident
Distressed over the alleged cheating, Lavanya ended her life. Fellow house surgeons rushed her to a hospital for treatment. However, she succumbed in the early hours of Sunday.
Legal Actions Taken
Based on a complaint, Siddipet Town-III police registered a case under relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Pranay Teja was arrested on January 5 and remanded to judicial custody.
