Residents in Indira Nagar report crow deaths and severed wings, prompting calls for civic action to prevent potential biomagnification risks
Crow Deaths Reported in Indira Nagar
The carcass of a crow was found at Indira Nagar Fourth Cross Street Park on January 10, 2026.
Around 7 a.m. on January 10, I saw the carcasses of two crows while strolling in the park. Residents from various areas, including Indira Nagar, Sashtri Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Velachery, and Neelankarai, have reported crow deaths for nearly two weeks.
Additionally, I noticed severed crow wings at the park and on a nearby road. At the park, severed wings were found in several locations.
On First Avenue in Indira Nagar, I saw a severed crow wing. It is likely that a cat fed on a dead crow, which may also be the case at the park. Cats often leave wings behind because they are hard to eat.
According to newspaper reports, TANUVAS has performed post-mortems on the crow carcasses. They found specific changes in the kidneys and spleen of the crows. Further studies will be conducted to determine the causes of these sudden deaths.
In the meantime, I urge local civic authorities to monitor crow deaths and remove the carcasses quickly.
As a layman, I understand the dangers of biomagnification. While we await answers about the cause of these crow deaths, it is important to prevent any potential transfer of harmful substances to other animals. I request that the carcasses be cleared before cats or dogs can access them.
