A migrant laborer from Jharkhand was assaulted in Mangaluru by four men who accused him of being Bangladeshi; police verified his Indian identity
Mangaluru Police Search for Four Assault Suspects
Mangaluru police are searching for four individuals who assaulted a migrant laborer from Jharkhand, mistakenly believing him to be Bangladeshi.
Details of the Incident
The victim is identified as Diljan Ansari. He has been coming to Mangaluru to work as a laborer for six months each year for the past 15 years.
On the evening of January 11, four individuals, reportedly linked to a right-wing organization, confronted him in the Kavoor police station area. They accused Ansari of being Bangladeshi, verbally abused him, and demanded to see his identity documents.
When Ansari insisted he is Indian, the group assaulted him with objects he was carrying. A local woman intervened, causing the assailants to flee. Ansari suffered heavy bleeding from his head and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. After receiving care, he returned to his room.
Police Response
Local leaders informed the police about the incident. Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that the police confirmed Ansari’s Indian nationality.
Commissioner Reddy identified the suspects as Sagar, Danush, Lalu Rathish, and Mohan, all residents of Kuloor. “We will look into their background,” he said.
All four suspects are currently absconding. They face charges under various sections of the law, including wrongful restraint, attempt to murder, and criminal intimidation. “Instructions have been given to arrest them immediately,” Mr. Reddy added.
