Punjab Governor Reviews Sports and Healthcare Infrastructure
Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria visited various sports and healthcare facilities in Chandigarh on Monday.
Visit to Sports Complex
Kataria first went to the Sports Complex in Sector 8 with UT chief secretary H Rajesh Prasad. They reviewed the swimming pool, chess center, and badminton hall. Kataria also observed Boccia, a sport for persons with disabilities. He interacted with Chess and Boccia players and praised the inclusive facilities.
Prerna Puri, secretary of sports, and Sorabh Kumar Arora, director of sports, were present during the visit.
Visit to Gurudwara Sahib Patshahi Dasvin
Next, Kataria and Prasad visited Gurudwara Sahib Patshahi Dasvin in Sector 8. They were welcomed by Sukhjinder Singh Behl, the president of the Gurudwara. Both officials received saropas as a mark of honor.
Visit to Government Medical College and Hospital
Kataria then visited the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 48. He was accompanied by the chief secretary and home secretary-cum-secretary of health Mandeep Singh Brar. Doctors reported that 54 out of 100 beds in the hospital were occupied.
During this visit, Kataria inspected the general OPD, laboratory, immunization room, and pharmacy. He also visited the tuberculosis and respiratory diseases department, including TB wards and the multi-drug resistant (MDR) room. He interacted with doctors, staff, and patients.
Visit to PGIMER
Later, Kataria visited the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). He reviewed the new OPD and was briefed by Dr. Mahesh Devnani, joint medical superintendent, about the registration process and facilities. He also visited the physiotherapy department and learned about advanced treatment options for spine, hip, and knee conditions.
Kataria interacted with NSS SARTHI volunteers and appreciated their service to society. He concluded his visit at the oral health sciences OPD at PGIMER for an oral check-up, where he was welcomed by Dr. SP Singh, professor and head of oral health sciences.
