Lucknow police pursue Rameez Malik accused of sexual exploitation and forced conversion at KGMU
Update on KGMU Doctor’s Case Involving Allegations of Sexual Exploitation
In a new development regarding a resident doctor at Lucknow’s King George’s Medical University (KGMU), police reported that the accused allegedly forced his wife to convert to Islam before their marriage in February 2025.
Authorities have increased efforts to locate Rameez Uddin Nayak, who is currently evading capture. The reward for his arrest has been raised to Rs 50,000.
Nayak, who worked in the pathology department at KGMU, faces accusations of sexually exploiting a colleague under the pretense of marriage. He allegedly pressured her to convert to Islam and blackmailed her. The complainant stated that he claimed to be unmarried and promised to marry her.
According to police, Nayak met his wife, also a doctor, while studying in Agra. She testified that in February 2025, Nayak coerced her into converting before taking her to Pilibhit to formalize their marriage.
As the investigation continued, authorities arrested several individuals believed to have facilitated the process. This includes Nayak’s parents, a local cleric, and a witness from Pilibhit.
Nayak’s parents, Salimuddin and Khadija, were arrested on Monday in the Thakurganj area of Lucknow.
The investigation revealed the alleged involvement of Nayak’s family members throughout the incident. Police have added charges of conspiracy, assault, and intimidation based on the statement from the first wife.
The reward for Nayak, who remains at large, is now Rs 50,000. Information obtained from his parents after their arrest has led investigators to several new locations where Nayak may be hiding.
Law enforcement teams are conducting raids at these locations in an effort to apprehend him.
