Bengaluru government requires Kogilu residents to verify nativity and 5-year residency for flat allotment amid eligibility checks
Government to Allot Flats to Eligible Residents in Phases
Ministers have instructed officials to clear applications for flats from residents with proper documents. The allotment will occur in phases.
The State government faces allegations from the Opposition regarding the allotment of flats to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Kogilu Layout. In response, the government will require residents who lost their homes during the demolition drive to prove their nativity. They must show they have lived in Bengaluru for at least five years to qualify for flat allotment.
Sources indicate that preference will be given to residents from the State.
Minister for Revenue Krishna Byre Gowda and Minister for Housing B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan held a review meeting on Monday. They instructed officials to process applications from residents with proper documents and to allot flats in phases.
“Residents need to prove their nativity. If they provide their native villages, we will verify this with the police and village accountants. The Housing Department rules state that a person must have lived in Bengaluru for at least five years to qualify for a house. They also need an income certificate. We will check these documents. We will allot houses to those who pass verification, in batches,” said Mr. Gowda.
He added that some nomadic fakirs do not have income certificates, which will be verified and provided. “There will be no interference in the vetting process. Only those who pass the test will be allotted flats,” he said.
