New Fire Station Approved on Dhandari Road

The Finance and Contract Committee of the municipal corporation has approved a new fire station on Dhandari Road. The estimated cost is ₹2 crore. This decision addresses frequent traffic congestion in the southern and central parts of the city. Such congestion often delays fire tenders during emergencies.

F&CC Meeting Details

The F&CC meeting took place on Monday at the mayor’s camp office. Attendees included mayor Inderjit Kaur, senior deputy mayor Rakesh Parashar, deputy mayor Prince Jora, MC commissioner Aditya Dachalwal, and senior officials from various branches.

Development Proposals Discussed

A total of 115 development proposals were discussed, with most approved for execution. Key approvals include the redevelopment of important chowks and road stretches under the National Clean Air Programme. This covers 16 busy junctions, including Vishwakarma Chowk, Metro Road, Pavilion Road, Jagraon Bridge, Raho Road, Itawa Chowk, Durga Mata Mandir area, and Jalandhar Bypass near the vegetable market. The upgrades aim to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

Other Sanctions and Approvals

The committee also sanctioned road upgrades in Atam Nagar and Focal Point. They approved repairs of Transport Nagar disposal works, renovation of the central store, reconstruction of the Zone-B1 office, and recarpeting works at several stretches.

Revised Cost for Waste Plant

The revised cost for the construction and demolition waste plant at Dhandari Kalan was approved at ₹8.46 crore. This is an increase from ₹7.39 crore due to an extended boundary wall and changes in piling methods.

Concerns Raised by Senior Deputy Mayor

Senior deputy mayor Rakesh Parashar raised concerns about alleged irregularities in the construction of a central verge in Subhash Nagar. He called for a detailed probe into the matter.

Priority for Current Financial Year

Officials stated that priority would be given to works that must be completed within the current financial year. This is to avoid a lapse of funds.
