A man allegedly murdered his stepmother and stepbrother in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday morning over a property dispute, police reported.
Details of the Incident
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Manish Mishra stated that the accused has been arrested. The incident was discovered when the accused was transporting both bodies on a tractor-trolley. One body fell off the trolley on the way to a canal near his village.
Identities of the Individuals Involved
The accused is identified as 32-year-old Rahul Gupta, a businessman in building materials residing in Patehra market. The deceased are Usha Gupta, aged 62, and Ayush Gupta, aged 30.
Events Following the Murders
After the murders, the accused intended to dispose of the bodies by loading them onto a tractor-trailer. However, Ayush’s body fell off the trailer at the Madhihan intersection. The accused then discarded Usha Devi’s body into the Patehara-Madhihan branch canal.
Discovery and Arrest
On his return, the accused attempted to cover his stepbrother’s body with a sheet at the intersection. Two passersby noticed him and called out. He panicked and fled toward his house.
Police Action
Police apprehended the accused and recovered the tractor-trailer and the weapon. According to police, the accused confessed to throwing his stepmother’s body into the canal. The police team later recovered the body from the canal.
Current Status
ASP Manish Mishra confirmed the arrest of the accused. Both bodies have been sent to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
