Petrol pumps in Imphal, Manipur, closed indefinitely after a bomb attack at a Bishnupur district fuel station, with dealers demanding enhanced security and compensation.
Petrol Pumps in Imphal Closed After Bomb Attack
Petrol pumps in Imphal, the capital of Manipur, were closed on Saturday. This closure followed a bomb attack at a petrol pump in Bishnupur district on Thursday evening.
MPDF Demands Enhanced Security
The Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity (MPDF) has called for improved security for petrol pumps and their staff. They want to prevent future bomb blasts.
The MPDF decided to close all petrol pumps indefinitely in the valley area starting Saturday.
Letter to the Governor
In a letter to state governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Friday, the MPDF expressed serious concern over the bomb attack at the BPCL Petrol Pump Dealer M/s Elidas Fuel Station. This incident occurred on Thursday around 8:10 PM.
The letter stated, “This is the second instance where a life attempt has been made with bomb threats within a short period of time.” The previous incident targeted a dealer on December 6, 2025.
Concerns About Safety
The letter noted that despite strict actions taken by authorities, dealers still face severe threats. The MPDF has requested that the government ensure no future bomb attacks occur. They also asked for compensation for any damage to petrol pumps.
“Maximum monetary compensation should be extended if any dealers or staff get injured or killed,” the letter stated.
Additionally, they demanded compensation for the damage at M/s Elidas Fuel Station.
Impact on Petrol Prices
Due to the sudden closure of petrol pumps, some two-wheeler riders were seen buying petrol at ₹120 a litre on Thursday morning.
Previous Meetings with Authorities
Last month, MPDF representatives met with state authorities. They reported facing high monetary demands and ongoing threats. They had threatened to shut down oil pumps after December 28, but this plan was temporarily called off after discussions with the state government.
