Following resident complaints, Mumbai’s Bageshri Society now receives better-quality water after BMC flushed pipelines and tested samples, resolving foul odour issues.
Improvement in Water Quality for Bageshri Society Residents
Residents of Bageshri Society have started receiving better-quality water from Wednesday. This change comes after days of complaints about foul-smelling water. The improvement follows concerns about contamination and health risks.
| Event | Date | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Water Quality Improvement | Wednesday | Residents began receiving better-quality water. |
| Testing of Water Samples | Recent | Samples tested clear, ruling out contamination. |
| Flushing of Water Lines | Recent | Precautionary flushing was done to restore supply. |
Pravin Dudhwadkar, an engineer from the BMC water department, stated, “The water samples collected from the society were tested and found to be clear. The test report rules out chemical contamination or sewage mixing.”
Officials mentioned that the foul smell might be linked to new water pipelines in the area. Dudhwadkar added, “The smell could have been the result of the new water pipelines, which we have laid. However, that too is just speculation because we have not installed the new pipelines yet; they are just laid beside the older ones as of now.”
BMC officials conducted precautionary flushing of the water lines to restore normal supply. They assured residents that water quality will be monitored over the next few days to prevent future issues.
Residents reported a noticeable improvement in water quality since Wednesday. Sanjay Patkar, a resident, said, “The foul smell has reduced significantly, and the water looks much better now.”
Many residents noted that while the issue may not have posed an immediate health threat, the persistent smell made daily water use difficult, especially for cooking and drinking.
Members of the society expressed gratitude to mid-day for highlighting the problem. Mahendra Chheda, secretary of Bageshri Society, said, “Without the issue being reported, this might have dragged on much longer. We are grateful that the matter was taken seriously.”
