NIA takes over probe into twin IED blasts in Bishnupur, Manipur, injuring two civilians amid ongoing search operations
Investigation into Bomb Blast in Bishnupur District Handed to NIA
The Bishnupur district police of Manipur transferred the investigation into a bomb blast at Saiton Nganukon Ward 7/8 to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday. The explosion injured two people, according to officials.
The first of two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) exploded around 5 am on Monday in a house owned by Salam Mani, 70. The house has been unoccupied since May 3, 2023.
Officials reported another IED explosion occurred nearby in Saiton Nganukon Ward number 8, resulting in injuries to two civilians. The case is now with the NIA for further investigation.
Police Response and Ongoing Operations
Senior police officers, including the inspector general of police (IGP) and the superintendent of police for Bishnupur district, visited the blast sites to assess the situation. Combing and search operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas.
Officials stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the blasts.
Previous Bomb Attack and Reactions
On December 16, another bomb attack occurred at Torbung, about 4 km from the site of Monday’s blast. Former chief minister N Biren Singh condemned the IED attack on social media, calling it a cowardly act that threatens public safety.
Singh emphasized the need for zero tolerance against attacks on civilians and insisted that the perpetrators must be identified and dealt with firmly.
