Nigerian National Allegedly Beaten to Death in Pune
A 40-year-old Nigerian national, Emeka Christian, was allegedly beaten to death in Pune’s Pisoli area. This incident followed a dispute related to a romantic relationship. A murder case has been filed against three other Nigerian citizens involved in the incident.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the incident took place after Christian and some compatriots gathered for dinner on Sunday night at a Nigerian woman’s residence in Pisoli. A disagreement reportedly arose over the woman. Investigators believe one of the accused was romantically involved with her and often visited her home. Christian allegedly objected to this relationship, which led to rising tensions.

The dispute escalated later that night, culminating in an assault around 3 am on Monday, said Senior Police Inspector Mansing Patil. Christian was allegedly beaten and attacked with a hard object during the altercation. Gift Utah, vice president of the Nigerian Students Union in Pune, rushed him to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Following the incident, police registered a case under Sections 103 (murder) and 3(5) (common intent) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Two of the accused have been arrested, and a manhunt is underway for the third accused.
Victim’s Background
Police reported that Emeka was living in Pisoli and was involved in the garment trading business. He held a valid passport and visa, allowing him to stay in India until 2027. The arrested individuals are also reportedly engaged in the clothing business.
