Protest by Civil Pensioners Association in Thoothukudi

The Forum of Civil Pensioners Association held a dharna in Thoothukudi. They urged the government to meet their long-standing demands.

The protest occurred near the Chidambara Nagar bus stop. L. Ramamoorthy, the district coordinator, presided over the event. R. Russel, the secretary of the Water Transport Workers Federation of India, delivered the inaugural address.

Pensioners at the protest raised slogans for several demands. These included merging 50% of the dearness allowance with basic pay, effective from April 1. They also called for 30% interim relief and the implementation of the 8th Central Pay Commission arrears from January 1, 2026.

Various state and central government pensioners associations spoke at the gathering. S. Raphael, zonal secretary of the Income Tax Department Pensioners Association, and Samas, district secretary of the atomic energy department pensioners association, were among those present.

A large number of central and state government pensioners participated in the protest.
