Punjab Governor to Unfurl National Flag in Fazilka on Republic Day

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will unfurl the national flag at the state-level Republic Day function in Fazilka on January 26.

The Punjab government announced that the venue for the state-level function has been moved from Patiala to Fazilka. This order was issued on Tuesday.

This will be the first time the border district hosts the state-level Republic Day celebrations. Officials said the venue was changed because the governor wanted to hoist the national flag in a border district.

Fazilka Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu stated that the district administration received the official notice about the state-level function on Tuesday. The governor will hoist the national flag at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium. The district administration is preparing for security, parade rehearsals, and cultural tableaux.

Initially, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains was scheduled to unfurl the national flag in Fazilka.

Social worker Karan Gilhotra called the decision to hold the state-level function in Fazilka a “historic step.”

He noted that this move shows respect for the feelings and contributions of people in border areas. He said it is more than just a government event; it is a moment of pride for the border belt and will enhance Fazilka’s identity at both state and national levels. He added that the Karan Gilhotra Foundation has started preparations to welcome the governor, who is expected to arrive in Fazilka on January 25. “Several other social programmes will also be organised in his honour and will be chaired by the governor himself,” he said.
