RTA Forms Teams to Monitor Private Bus Fares

The Road Transport Authority (RTA) has created special Fare Monitoring Teams under the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS). These teams will check fares on private buses booked through online apps like Abhi Bus and Red Bus. This action aims to prevent overcharging of passengers during the Sankranti rush.

Monitoring and Legal Actions

District Transport Officer R. Ch. Srinivas stated that fare monitoring has been ongoing for the past five days. When RTA officials receive reports of excessive fares, they engage with travel company owners to negotiate fare reductions. Private buses cannot charge more than 50% above the fare set by RTC. Violations may lead to legal action.

Helpline and Compliance Checks

A 24×7 Helpline at 9281607001 is available for passengers to report excessive fares or other issues. Orders have been issued for private bus operators to display this helpline number on their buses. Transport officials are conducting special drives to take action against buses that violate the Motor Vehicle Act.

Results of Monitoring

Mr. Srinivas reported that during the checks over the last five days, there were 34 cases of excess fare collection and non-compliance with road tax and permit rules. A total of ₹95,100 was collected in penalties and compounding fees. These special drives will continue until January 18.
