Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple Closure for Sindoor Lepan Ceremony

The Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple in Mumbai will close from January 7 to 11, 2026. This closure is for the annual Sindoor Lepan ceremony and other religious rituals. During this time, devotees cannot view the main idol, but they can see the replica idol.

Many devotees visit the temple each day. The Siddhivinayak Temple Trust has issued a press release to inform visitors ahead of time. Veena Patil, the trust’s executive officer, has asked for the cooperation of devotees during this temporary closure.

The temple was originally built by Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patil on November 19, 1801. It is one of Mumbai’s most visited and wealthiest Hindu pilgrimage sites. The annual Sindoor Lepan ceremony draws large crowds, which is why the sanctum will close.

After the rituals, on Monday, January 12, 2026, the temple will perform Prokshanvidhi, Naivedya, and Aarti in the morning. Regular darshan of the main idol will start again at 1:00 PM from the sanctum. Devotees should note this schedule and cooperate with the temple authorities.
