Missing Skipping Coach Feared Drowned at Marina Beach

A 27-year-old skipping coach from Delhi is feared drowned after being pulled by strong waves while bathing at Marina Beach on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Search operations by police and fire and rescue services are ongoing.

Details of the Incident

The missing man is Harbag Singh, 27, from Mangalpuri in New Delhi. He traveled to Chennai with five students to compete in a skipping competition at the Tamil Nadu Sports University in Kandigai Melakottaiyur, near Tambaram.

After the competition, they visited Marina Beach around 2 p.m. on Thursday. At approximately 3:30 p.m., they entered the sea near Vivekananda House. According to police, a strong wave suddenly swept Harbag Singh into deeper waters. While the students returned safely, the coach was dragged away.

The students quickly alerted the Marina police personnel on duty. Tamil Nadu Special Police personnel, including Ajith Kumar, along with local police and fire and rescue teams, began a search operation.
