Accident on Barapulla Flyover Results in One Fatality

New Delhi: One person died and six others were injured when an SUV overturned after hitting a divider on the Barapulla Flyover in southeast Delhi early Monday, an official reported.

The police received a PCR call around 2:30 AM at the Sunlight Colony police station. The call reported that a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle, with five to six occupants, had overturned after crashing into a divider at one end of the flyover.

Police teams quickly arrived at the scene. A nearby PCR van had already taken the victims to the hospital.

“Information was received from the AIIMS Trauma Centre that seven injured people had been brought for treatment. The injured were identified as Nikhil, Gagan, Harsh, Bhisam, Yuvraj, Maan, and Himanshu,” the police officer stated.

During the medical examination, Harsh was declared dead by doctors, the officer added.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Harsh was driving the SUV at the time of the accident. The vehicle likely lost control and crashed into the divider, causing it to overturn.

“The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Factors such as overspeeding, possible loss of control, and road conditions are being investigated. The damaged vehicle has been seized,” the officer said.

Police will record statements from the injured once they are fit to speak. They are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the sequence of events.

A case has been registered under sections 106, 281, and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is ongoing.
