Details of the Incident

Baramulla assembly member Javeed Hassan Baig stated that Layaqat Ahmad Deedard, 27, and Ishfaq Ahmad Khatana, 33, lost their lives after slipping into a nallah near Upper Gulmarg in Baramulla district, Kashmir. The porters were on their way to Anita Post when they fell into a deep gorge on Thursday. A search and rescue operation was launched to find them, and today, search teams recovered both bodies.

Javeed Hassan Baig expressed his sorrow, saying, “This is a personal loss to me. The incident occurred while they were moving towards Anita Post, which was cut off due to heavy snowfall. My heartfelt condolences go out to their families, and I pray that they find strength and courage during this difficult time.”

The army has not yet commented on the deaths of the two porters. Many young people in Baramulla and Kupwara districts work as porters under extreme conditions. Officials confirmed that the bodies of both porters have been handed over to their families after legal formalities.
