Temporary Traffic Restrictions on Veera Desai Road for BMC Election 2026

Mumbai Traffic Police have announced temporary traffic restrictions on Veera Desai Road from January 14 to 16 for the BMC election 2026. The restrictions will be in effect from 7:00 am on January 14, 2026, until 10:00 pm on January 16, 2026.

Details of the Traffic Restrictions

The Mumbai Traffic Police announced these restrictions to ensure the smooth conduct of the election process and maintain public safety. According to an official statement, the movement of vehicles not engaged in election-related duties will be temporarily prohibited on both carriageways of Veera Desai Road. This includes the stretch from J.P. Road Junction to Mogra Nala, near J.P. Road, Azad Nagar, and close to the Metro Station in Andheri (West).

The affected stretch falls under ward No. 59 to ward No. 71 within the Oshiwara Traffic Division. The restrictions will be in force from 7:00 am on January 14, 2026, until 10:00 pm on January 16, 2026. During this time, entry of all non-election duty vehicles on Veera Desai Road will be strictly prohibited.

Alternate Routes for Commuters

To facilitate smooth traffic movement during the BMC elections, the Mumbai Traffic Police have announced alternate routes. Vehicles approaching via the southbound carriageway of Veera Desai Road will be diverted to take a right or left turn at Courtyard Junction and proceed via Chitrakut Junction and New Link Road. Vehicles coming from the westbound carriageway of J.P. Road will be asked to take a right turn and continue via New Link Road.

Additional Traffic Closure on C. D. Barfiwala Road

On the same day, the Mumbai Traffic Police announced a temporary closure of the northbound carriageway on C. D. Barfiwala Road. This closure is between Tipu Sultan Junction and Gulmohar Junction due to ongoing flyover construction work. The work of installing flyover pillars is currently underway under the jurisdiction of the D. N. Nagar Traffic Division.
