Indira Gandhi Zoological Park Hosts Winter Camp for Children
Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) has launched a four-day Winter Camp this January. The camp runs from January 8 to January 11. It aims to provide children with hands-on learning about animals, their care, and conservation. G Mangamma, the curator of IGZP, stated that the camp offers direct experiences rather than just instruction. Registrations remain open, allowing children to join the program even after it has started.
Camp Activities and Learning Opportunities
The Winter Camp is different from regular holiday activities. It allows children to observe, ask questions, and interact with zoo staff. Participants will explore animal enclosures, service areas, and learning spaces that are not usually open to the public. Key activities include a visit to the Zoo Veterinary Hospital and interactions with animal keepers. These experiences will help children understand animal health and the responsibilities of caring for wildlife.
Daily Schedule Highlights
| Day | Activities |
|---|---|
| 1 | Treasure hunt, hippo feeding, interaction with animal keeper |
| 2 | Session on animal waste, matching droppings to animals, keeper-led sessions on peacocks and giraffes |
| 3 | Behind-the-scenes tour of zoo hospital and kitchen |
| 4 | Storytelling and art session |
The camp fee is ₹600. Each participant will receive a Winter Camp participation certificate, an animal-themed T-shirt, a zoo passport card for 10 free zoo visits, and educational materials from IGZP. The camp runs from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
